The MMM Headquarters

is now becoming

The FI Collective!

What’s This?

Since 2017, some friends and I have been running a community space out of a rambling historic compound in the heart of downtown Longmont, Colorado. These days there are four of us co-owning the place including myself and the esteemed Mindy and Carl (from BiggerPockets and 1500 Days), and Bill from Maine.

But new and most importantly: a whole new crew of members has joined us in co-running the place and making a lot more fun happen. We now have less of an emphasis on just co-working and more on what we’ve really become: a country-wide collective of people who all share common interests and a love of meeting each other. So we decided to rename ourselves as part of this expansion.

Our headquarters location is still the same place, which is an interesting building with a mixture of large and small rooms, set up much like a large coffee shop plus an outdoor patio.

Amenities:

Members of the this community enjoy this always-growing list of perks:

  • 24/7 keypad access to a historic building downtown with various cozy work and social spaces (about 2400 square feet) with couches, tables, benches, chairs, etc. Plus a dedicated kitchenette and a separate full kitchen.
  • Access to dozens of other accomplished entrepreneurial local friends, who are all part of an active Discord Group.
  • WiFi over Gigabit fiber internet access
  • Free great coffee
  • A tool sharing library in a detached garage workshop (including welding and metalworking equipment, a 5×10 cargo trailer, etc.)
  • A big outdoor patio courtyard area out back with grill, chairs, music, patio lanterns, etc.
  • Outdoor gym with barbells, kettlebells, squat rack, medicine ball, plus bodyweight things like pull-up bars and a dip rack.

Our fully equipped “Prisonyard” outdoor gym, which is open 24/7/365 and of course does not need to close for pandemics.

  • Regular happy hours, potlucks and other social gatherings.
  • All-solar-generated electricity from our DIY-crafted array on the garage, which also powers our heating and cooling via a new heat pump – and you can learn from fellow members how to build this stuff too.
  • Talks and classes – from members, and from visitors.
  • Group Advocacy for improving the town.
  • The chance to work together on this new building – learning through doing as we build new features.
  • And any other perks and cool ideas we can think of with our collective mind power.
  • Operated on a informal nonprofit basis, we generally manage this place without charging for our time, which allows us to keep prices amazingly low and use the proceeds to create some good change around the town and the world.

Rates and How to Join:

Individual Community Membership: $400 annually

If you live here in Boulder County, your life is already pretty great. Why not 10x your awesomeness by adding a group of friendly, intelligent, adventurous, generous people to your orbit? This $1.10 per day gets you access to all events and dav visits to the FI Collective, even the premium ones that non-members have to pay for! Come to our weekly potlucks and happy hours, learn in one of our many classes, chat about personal finance in our FI discussions, or plan your own event and find others who share your interests!

Note: all local memberships also include full access to our extensive tool library and 10 foot cargo trailer, as well as possibly the expert help and coaching from other members on everything from plumbing to estate planning.

Family Community Membership: $600 annually

What’s that? You’re lucky enough to live in this awesome area and have a spouse/partner/family that you want to bring along to events? Amazing. Let’s get them in on the fun, at a discount too! $600 gets them all a membership and invited to FI Collective events!

This is just like the individual community membership but includes your family. This is perfect for couples or someone who wants to include the kids in our family-friendly events.

Co-working Membership: $1,000 annually (or $1,200 if paid semiannually)

Do you plan on bringing your laptop to The FI Collective and use it as a work space pretty regularly? Then the co-working tier is right for you.

Most co-working spaces in the area charge at least three times what we do, so at less than $3.00 per day this is a real bargain!

And this comes with all the perks of the community membership for you and your family. You can all join in on all the community events, even the premium ones that the non-members pay for.

Co-working notes:

  • We have a limited number of private offices, so we can’t sell too many of these memberships. But we will let you know if we’re at max capacity. (And we hope you’ll still become a community member if we are!)
  • There may occasionally be events during the work day, but we will post them on a shared calendar in advance. Plus we have some detached office space that is pretty well insulated from the rest of the world.

Remote Membership: $100 annually

Don’t live around here? This option is aimed at people who want to be part of all the FI Collective fun but live in a galaxy far, far away. Or maybe you just live in Denver or Fort Collins and hate driving, so you only make it to FI Collective a few times a year. This membership level is for YOU! What does it get you?

  • Virtual meetings about once a month. We plan on bringing in some big names from the FI community to host talks, AMAs, and interactive learning sessions.
  • Full access to the physical space (just like a local member) when you do happen to be in town.
  • You’ll be supporting the ideals of financial independence and community building
  • All this for a measly 27 cents a day?! (way less costly and way more valuable than any streaming service)

We ask that you live at least 30 miles from FI Collective before considering this option. If you live around here, get on your bike and come hang out in person.

Email us at [email protected] so we can get in touch and arrange a tour, and then once that is all figured out, we will email you some links to our HQ subscription options on Paypal.

Do You Offer Day Passes?

Sorry, while this is a fun option, it’s not practical for the community. Due to the goals described above, we are encouraging long term commitment and helping people build local friendships. But a Remote Membership is priced like just a few day passes, so it may still be worth your while and you’ll be supporting a great cause.

If you are ready, read this super-informal membership agreement, then send us an email (hq.coworking at gmail) with Coworking in the title. Please include a bit of biographical information so we can know you’re a real, friendly person.

We give tours regularly, and there are new people joining all the time so perhaps you’ll be one of them?

Hope to see you here, neighbor!
